week 9, thing 23

What were your favorite discoveries or exercises on this learning journey?

I really liked Flickr and google writer. I can see so many possibilities with Flickr that I am going to have a lot of fun using its many features.

How has this program assisted or affected your lifelong learning goals?

I am currently enrolled in the library technician program at Santa Ana College, and am doing an internship at a public library. Because of my Library 2.0 learning, I have been given tasks that I otherwise would not be assigned. I am excited to always be learaning, and now to teach others the skills I have acquired.

Were there any take-a-ways or unexpected outcomes from this program that surprised you?

I was surprised at how much is out there, free for the taking! I know this is just the tip of the iceberg, but it's great to get a headstart on it all.

What could we do differently to improve upon this program’s format or concept?

Not a lot. I thought it was wonderful! I just wish I had done it over the summer. The only reason I didn't is because I forgot. So getting a weekly email reminder from a cheerleader would have helped. I finally figured out how to put a calendar reminder in Outlook once a week, and that helped me this time around.

If we offered another discovery program like this in the future, would you choose to participate?

Definitely YES! Technology changes so quickly, and who knows how quickly the information I learned through this program becomes outdated?

How would you describe your learning experience in ONE WORD or in ONE SENTENCE, so we could use your words to promote CSLA learning activities?
Incredible learning experience!

week 9, things 20-22

youtube is blocked at school, but I can access it at home. There are some great videos, and I think it is a wonderful tool to share information.

I found a great source of podcasts from the SirsiDynix Institute that are very helpful. I forwarded some of the links to my library tech. instructor to share with others that are in the LT program at Santa Ana College.

eBooks are great! I use the link from the Orange County Public Library quite often to share with my K-6 students. And of course, the Gutenburg Project is incredible. What a wonderful resource!

week 8, thing 18

Zoho is great, and google writer is like an answer to my prayers! I've created so many documents/flyers etc. and now have a way to share them online, instead of having to email files or use flash drives between work and home.

week 7, thing 16

Wikis are so cool! I am excited to share this technology with some of the teachers, and collaborate on some student research projects. I like the idea of collaborating with others for a collective intelligence.

week 6, thing #13

del.icio.us is awesome, but overwhelming. I'm getting way overwhelmed with all of this technology, and am tempted to give up on library2.0. There is just so much to take in!!! But I tell myself I am just trying to familiarize myself with the various tools, and don't need to become an expert on all of them, or even any of them. I do love knowing what is out there and available to me, in case I ever feel like I have the time to do something more.

week 5, thing 12

I really like the Rollyo activity. I haven't had much time to play around with it, but I see it as a very useful tool to create safe searching for my elementary school students. I had done something similar with Portaportal.com. It's a web-based bookmarking tool, and I created grade level lists of websites for homework help. I see a lot of potential for Rollyo, and plan to implement it onto my website over the summer when I have more free time to explore.

week 3 thing 7

I'm excited to make trading cards for my school library. I recently made a poster with scanned images of the covers of books that have been made into movies, with a statement: "Don't judge a book by its movie". Now, I'm thinking to make trading cards of all the children's books that have been made into movies and give them away like bookmarks. I can hope the kids would get excited to try to collect their favorites!

Week 1, or is it 2?

I was so excited when this program was started last summer! My downfall was that I forgot to do it back then! If there was a way to send an email to myself every week to remind me to work on it, then I would have finished it back in August. Now I feel a rush to start again and get everything done by April.

I had fun setting up my avatar. I chose two things I love - books and the beach.

I can't get the learning contract to show up on my screen. My popup blocker keeps blocking it, even though I have checked for popups to be OK. But I wrote down the 7 1/2 steps and the steps in the learning contract. My goal is to use my blogspot and get rid of my Yahoo web hosting service. Some of the obstacles I face are that I'm forgetful because I have so many things on my mind and I have a hard time prioritizing, so I forget that the learning 2.0 is time sensitive and should move up on my priority list.
